The present paper aims to identify in elderly individuals what are the causes of falls suffered by this portion of the population and the most efficient ways to prevent them. The causes of falls in the elderly can be varied and are often associated. The origin factors can be classified as intrinsic, that is, due to physiological changes related to aging, diseases and side effects of medications. Problems with the environment will be more dangerous as the degree of vulnerability and instability in the elderly is greater. Part of the falls that occur with them are not linked to dangerous activities, but to routine activities. Most of them occur in the elderly's own residence. The rest takes place on the street or at the home of relatives. That is why it is necessary to intervene immediately with this population, resulting in a better quality of life, and in the reduction of causes capable of producing diseases and mortality.
